Hamzat Unveils 2027 Agenda After Landslide Victory

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has unveiled his major priorities for 2027 after emerging as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the party’s primary election.
Hamzat swept the poll with 657,917 votes, defeating his sole challenger, Lanre Kamal, who secured just one vote during the exercise held on Thursday, May 21, 2025. The outcome triggered celebrations among APC supporters at the venue.
The results of the primary election were announced by the Returning Officer, Jonathan Kemlong, confirming Hamzat as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 governorship race.
In his acceptance speech titled “My Lagos Dream,” Hamzat said his administration would focus on four major areas: service delivery and infrastructure, job creation, knowledge and skills development, as well as healthcare and security.
According to him, Lagos State must continue to expand its infrastructure network while creating more opportunities for young people and improving the welfare of residents across the state.
“2027 is a crucial year for our state and our nation, and the stakes are high,” Hamzat said, adding that his administration would ensure Lagos works for all residents, irrespective of religion, ethnicity or social status.
The APC candidate also promised inclusive governance, assuring artisans, traders, transport workers, fishermen, market women, tech professionals and investors that they would benefit from his administration’s policies and programmes.
Hamzat credited past administrations led by Bola Tinubu, Babatunde Fashola, Akinwunmi Ambode and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for laying the foundation for Lagos’ growth into Africa’s leading commercial hub, thanking Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, the Governance Advisory Council and APC members across the state for supporting his candidacy.
