The General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Mohammed Sanusi, has resigned amid a major leadership shake-up, with reports also indicating that NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and several Executive Committee members have stepped down.
The development follows a difficult period for Nigerian football, including the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons’ reported failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Sanusi, who had served as general secretary since 2014, oversaw the federation’s daily administration and national team programmes. His resignation, alongside the reported departures, raises questions about the NFF’s immediate leadership and whether an Emergency Congress will be required.
The crisis comes ahead of the NFF’s planned September 2026 elective congress and amid scrutiny over the management of government funds allocated to national teams.
