Former Super Eagles captain and Nigeria football legend, Segun Odegbami, has described Ibrahim Gusau’s resignation as NFF president as an opportunity to address Nigerian football’s challenges.
Gusau resigned alongside NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and Executive Committee members, ending his tenure amid concerns over the administration of the sport.
Odegbami said the resignation could avert a FIFA ban and allow stakeholders to overhaul football’s administration.
“His resignation removes the whole issue of FIFA ban and provides the opportunity for us to clean up whatever it is that we are complaining about,” he said.
Gusau said he resigned in the overriding interest of Nigerian football to support comprehensive reforms.
His departure follows Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, ending their participation in every edition since 1991.
The leadership change has renewed calls for accountability and a fresh direction for Nigerian football.
