Lagos Assembly Receives Sanwo-Olu’s 2026 Budget Reordering Request, Eyes Completion Of Ongoing Projects

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday received a letter from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu requesting the reordering of the 2026 Appropriation Law, titled the “Budget of Shared Prosperity.”
The letter, read on the floor of the House by the Clerk, Mrs. Adenike Oshinowo, outlined the priorities and justification for the proposed budget adjustment.
Leading the debate, the Chairman of the Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, Hon. Lukmon Olumoh, noted that the 2026 budget had achieved approximately 69 per cent performance, adding that the reordering had become necessary to ensure available resources are directed toward priority sectors.
Olumoh further suggested that the development could provide an opportunity for the governor to reconsider the proposed N200 billion bond recently submitted to the House for consideration.
Contributing to the debate, Hon. Aro Moshood (Ikorodu II) described the proposed reordering as a reflection of the dividends of democracy, expressing optimism that it would further address the needs of residents across the state.
Commending the budget’s performance thus far, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa II) advocated the reallocation of funds to projects that are ongoing and nearing completion. He emphasized the importance of adequately funding projects in line with their scope and level of execution.
Yishawu noted that while some capital projects have recorded significant progress, others remain ongoing and require sustained funding to ensure timely completion.
Also speaking, Hon. Kehinde Joseph (Alimosho II) called for increased attention to environmental challenges, particularly drainage and flood control projects. He stressed the need for adequate funding of interventions aimed at mitigating flooding and improving the quality of life of residents.
Following extensive deliberations, Speaker Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa referred the proposed budget reordering to the Committee on Economic Planning and Budget for further legislative consideration.
The committee was directed to submit its report to the House within two weeks.
