Lagos Govt Hails JOHESU For Suspending Strike, Pledges Improved Welfare For Health Workers
The Lagos State Government has commended the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) for calling off its recent industrial action, describing the move as a demonstration of goodwill and shared responsibility in safeguarding public healthcare services across the state.
The Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr Afolabi Ayantayo, spoke after a meeting between representatives of the state government and union executives, appreciating JOHESU for embracing dialogue and constructive engagement in resolving outstanding issues.
Ayantayo said the meeting ended with a consensus to sustain discussions while the union convenes its congress to formally communicate the resolutions reached and restore normalcy across public healthcare facilities in Lagos State.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the union’s demands for improved welfare benefits in line with established regulations and agreed timelines.
According to him, the administration remains steadfast in promoting equitable treatment, better working conditions and sustainable welfare programmes for health sector employees.
The commissioner acknowledged the indispensable role of allied health professionals in strengthening healthcare delivery across the state and assured that the government would continue to engage stakeholders through open and transparent channels to ensure diligent implementation of all agreements reached.
He also commended the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly for its timely intervention and constructive role in facilitating dialogue and promoting mutual understanding among the parties, which he said significantly contributed to the amicable resolution of the impasse.
Ayantayo expressed the government’s appreciation to residents for their patience and cooperation during the strike, reassuring the public of its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted access to quality healthcare services for all.
