South African midfielder Jayden Adams, who represented his country at the FIFA World Cup, has died at 25. Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie confirmed his death on Saturday.
McKenzie called Adams “one of South African football’s brightest young talents,” while CAF paid tribute, saying: “Football has lost one of its own.”
Police are investigating after a 25-year-old man’s body was found at a house in Schotschekloof, Cape Town.
Adams played in all three of South Africa’s World Cup group matches and helped the team reach the Round of 32. He was also part of the squad that finished third at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Stellenbosch FC academy graduate joined Mamelodi Sundowns in 2025, winning the South African Premiership and CAF Champions League.
