Former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Galadima, has passed away at the age of 74.
His death was confirmed on Saturday in Kano by former NFF General Secretary, Sani Ahmed Toro.
“I regret to announce the death of our respected Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, former NFA Chairman, today in Kano. May Allah reward him with Aljanna Firdausi,” Toro said.
Galadima served as Chairman of the then Nigeria Football Association (NFA) from 2002 to 2006, where he played a key role in shaping football administration in Nigeria.
Born on June 14, 1951, in Fagge, Kano, he had a long and distinguished career in sports administration, beginning as Chairman of the Kano State Football Association between 1977 and 1979, and later as Executive Chairman of the Kano State Sports Council from 1981 to 1983.
His administrative influence extended beyond the state level, as he served on the Caretaker Committee of the National Sports Commission and later became First Vice President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) from 1985 to 1987.
Galadima also held key political positions in Kano State, including Commissioner for Social Welfare, Youth and Sports, and subsequently Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport.
At the continental level, he contributed to football development as a member of the Youth Competitions Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). He also played a role in Nigeria’s hosting efforts for the FIFA World Youth Championship, serving as Chairman of the Kano sub-committee for the 1999 edition and contributing to preparations for the planned 1995 tournament.
