The Chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Rauf Ibrahim Kayode Yemaren, has sworn in Hon. (Mrs.) Sesi Ogungbe as the new Vice Chairman of the council.
The ceremony, held at the Council Secretariat, began with a one-minute silence in honour of the late Vice Chairman, Princess Remilekun Nutayi, popularly known as “Voice,” whose passing created the vacancy.
In his remarks, Yemaren said the replacement was necessary to ensure continuity in governance, noting that the LCDA could not function effectively with a leadership vacuum. “As you know, there can be no vacuum in governance. Today’s swearing-in is to fill the void created by the unfortunate demise of our dear colleague,” he stated.
He explained that Ogungbe’s appointment followed due process, as she was screened and cleared by the councillors in line with constitutional provisions. He described her as capable, loyal, and committed to the development of Badagry West LCDA.
The Chairman praised Ogungbe as a dependable and hardworking team player who had demonstrated integrity throughout her service, particularly during her tenure as Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), adding “She’s a woman of capacity. I’ve worked with her closely, and I can vouch for her loyalty and competence. This appointment is a reward for her dedication and service to our people”.
In her acceptance speech, Ogungbe expressed profound gratitude to the council leadership and stakeholders for the trust placed in her. She described the journey to her new office as challenging but fulfilling.
“Reaching this height was very tough, and at some point, I almost lost hope. But today, I’m filled with renewed strength and gratitude,” she said. She pledged loyalty, dedication, and full commitment to the administration.
Also speaking, the Apex Leader of Badagry West LCDA, Hon. Bamgbose Joseph, described the swearing-in as symbolic and historic, commending the Chairman for his leadership foresight. He emphasized that the Vice Chairman’s role is constitutional and reflects continuity in governance.
He urged the new Vice Chairman to remain focused and view her appointment as a call to greater service, noting that “the reward for hard work is more work.”
