Somolu Legislative Council Presses For Faster Infrastructure Delivery

The Somolu Local Government Legislative Council has called for the speedy completion of ongoing road and infrastructure projects across the area, while raising concerns over street lighting and environmental challenges.
The issues dominated the council’s plenary session presided over by the Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Tunde James Oyeyiola.
Members reviewed the progress of projects on Oluwajisegbede, Alhaji Sheriff, Wright Lane, Esangbogun, Odunlami, Johnson and Anifowoshe streets, urging contractors and relevant authorities to expedite work.

Hon. Olubiyi Afolarin commended the completion of Akeju, Opanubi and Awofeso Streets, but called for improved street lighting and the resolution of challenges affecting existing installations.
The House also considered a request by the CDA of Bashua Close for the rehabilitation of its road and drainage infrastructure.
On environmental concerns, members discussed compliance by property developers and renewed efforts to evacuate waste at Alarepe Market, where refuse had reportedly started accumulating again.

The council also reviewed its Rules of Procedure, with the Chief Whip, Hon. Sinat Adelaja, stressing the need for compliance with provisions on attendance, discipline and sanctions.
Members were further urged to sustain engagement with their constituents ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The sitting was subsequently adjourned to enable members to attend to constituency and campaign-related activities.
