The Edo State Government has trained more than 900 civil and public servants in digital skills ahead of the launch of its new electronic governance platform, Edo Cloud, also known as Edo-Gov 2.0.
The training programme, organised by the Edo State Information Communication and Technology Agency (ICTA) in collaboration with Tech4Dev, is aimed at improving productivity, accountability and service delivery across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Speaking at the opening session held at the ICTA Block C, Secretariat Buildings Complex, the Edo State Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa, described the training as a crucial step in preparing public servants for the deployment of the Edo Cloud platform.
Okungbowa, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Directorate of Corporate Change, Communication and Performance Management, Dr. Peter Osagie, said the four-week programme became necessary due to the impending rollout of the new platform, which differs significantly from the state’s previous e-governance system.
He explained that the Edo Cloud platform is more comprehensive and requires higher digital competence from civil servants to effectively utilise its features.
The Head of Application Management and Support at ICTA, Mr. Vincent Ikeke, said the programme is designed to strengthen the digital capacity of civil servants ahead of the transition to Edo-Gov 2.0 and to promote the safe and responsible use of digital tools, including artificial intelligence.
Ikeke added that the training will also improve participants’ skills in data handling, analysis, reporting, task management and workflow coordination in an increasingly digital workplace.
Tech4Dev facilitator, Mr. Gaius Ogbonna, said the training adopts a grade-level targeted approach and focuses on practical digital skills and safety practices, noting that participants were divided into cohorts to ensure effective learning and better engagement.
