The Oyo State Government has approved an increase in monthly gratuity payments from ₦1 billion to ₦3 billion, reaffirming its commitment to improving the welfare of retirees and clearing outstanding arrears.
A statement issued by the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, on Monday, noted that the increase represents a 200 per cent rise and will take effect from January 2026.
Adelabu said the decision reflects Governor Seyi Makinde’s continued prioritisation of pensioners’ welfare, adding that 4,612 retirees have benefited from gratuity payments since the beginning of the current administration.
He explained that the enhanced allocation aimed at accelerating the settlement of long-standing gratuity backlogs across the state.
The Commissioner assured retirees that all outstanding gratuity arrears would be fully cleared before the end of Governor Makinde’s tenure in May 2027.
He praised the governor’s leadership style, describing it as people-oriented, inclusive, and emphasised that the administration remains committed to ensuring that no civil servant or retiree is neglected.
Adelabu added that the governor’s intervention underscores his dedication to transparent, prompt and effective payment of pensions and gratuities in the state.
The Commissioner wished retirees, civil servants and residents of Oyo State a peaceful and prosperous 2026, urging them to remain hopeful and united under the current administration.
