Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has assured members of the Nigerian Armed Forces of his administration’s unwavering support in their efforts to safeguard the sovereignty and unity of the country.
The governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, gave the assurance on Thursday during the Parade and Laying of Wreaths ceremony to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, held at the Remembrance Arcade, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island.
Sanwo-Olu said the Lagos State Government remains firmly committed to supporting the families of fallen heroes, stressing that both government and citizens will never forget the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces in the defence of lives and property across the nation.
He noted that personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces continue to risk their lives to protect Nigerians, adding that it is the responsibility of both the Federal and State governments to reciprocate through sustained welfare and institutional support.
“Today’s Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day is to honour and encourage our military personnel, remember our fallen heroes and pray for them. It is to reassure them that their sacrifices have not been in vain and to show that the nation stands firmly behind them,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu further emphasised that the state remains committed to providing assistance to widows of fallen heroes, noting that although some of the government’s support efforts may not always be visible, they are consistent and deliberate.
In his remarks, the Deputy Controller General of the Nigerian Legion Council, DCG Wolimoh Hakeem Olawale, commended the Lagos State Government for its continued support to the Armed Forces, particularly the widows and families of fallen heroes.
DCG Olawale reaffirmed the Nigerian Legion’s commitment to the welfare of military veterans and the dependents of deceased service members, noting that the organisation remains a statutory body established to cater for the needs of veterans and the families they left behind.
