Raphinha continued his remarkable goal-scoring start to the season with another brace as Barcelona produced an impressive display to defeat Feyenoord in the Champions League.
Former Arsenal and Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus also opened his Barcelona account late in the game, after his fellow Brazilian had already put the hosts in firm control.
Raphinha produced an outrageous piece of skill to beat two defenders before calmly slotting the ball home in the third minute to give Barcelona an early lead. The goal was Raphinha’s seventh in five games, with the former Leeds United winger scoring in every match he has played this season.
Feyenoord, managed by former Barcelona defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who won the Champions League with the Catalan club in 2005-06, were denied a penalty appeal in the 20th minute after Anis Hadj Moussa went down inside the box.
Barcelona doubled their advantage moments later when Karim Adeyemi curled a superb 20-yard effort into the top-right corner. The summer signing from Borussia Dortmund celebrated with his trademark backflip.
Raphinha added his second in the 57th minute, firing across the goalkeeper after making a well-timed run. It was his eighth goal of the campaign and the third time in five games he has scored twice.
Barcelona’s free-scoring attack produced a fourth goal in the 77th minute when Lamine Yamal converted a free-kick. However, the Catalan side were unable to keep a clean sheet, as substitute Sem Steijn scored an 82nd-minute consolation for Feyenoord.
Gabriel Jesus completed the rout late on, heading in Barcelona’s fifth goal. The former Arsenal forward, who joined the club at the start of the month, helped take their tally to 22 goals in five games this season.
