FIFA Approves Normalisation Committee To Take Over Nigerian Football

The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has approved the constitution of a Normalisation Committee to oversee Nigerian football pending elections to usher in a new executive leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
According to information released by the NFF’s media department, the decision ends speculation surrounding the formation of the committee following the resignation of the Ibrahim Gusau-led Executive Committee.
The Bureau of the FIFA Council approved the establishment of the committee on Thursday. It is expected to manage the affairs of the NFF pending fresh elections into the federation’s Executive Committee.
In a letter signed by FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström and addressed to Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, MON, FIFA stated that “the normalisation committee shall consist of a suitable number of members, who will be appointed jointly by FIFA and CAF as soon as possible.”
The letter further stated that “the period during which the normalisation committee shall perform its functions shall expire as soon as it has fulfilled all of its tasks, but by no later than 31 May 2027.”
FIFA also stipulated that none of the committee members would be eligible to contest any of the positions to be filled during the forthcoming NFF elections.
Meanwhile, the NFF Secretariat will continue to handle the day-to-day administration of the federation and the country’s football pending the appointment of the Normalisation Committee.
