Players and officials of Nigeria’s Senior Women’s Basketball Team, D’Tigress, have thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after receiving the financial rewards promised for winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.
The payments were the final tranche of the Presidential Rewards. Following arrangements concluded by National Sports Commission Chairman Shehu Dikko and Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele, D’Tigress and the Super Falcons received their rewards within three days.
D’Tigress captain Amy Okonkwo thanked President Tinubu for fulfilling his promises, including houses, national honours and financial rewards.
“We are truly grateful for everything he has done to support Nigerian athletes,” she said, also appreciating the First Lady, the NSC leadership and the Nigeria Basketball Federation.
D’Tigress won the 2025 championship in Abidjan, defeating Mali 78–64 to claim a record-extending seventh continental title. The victory was their fifth consecutive AfroBasket triumph and extended Nigeria’s unbeaten run to 29 games.
