Fanny Amun Resigns As NFF Fact-Finding Committee Chairman After Submitting Report

Ambassador Fanny Amun has resigned as chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) fact-finding committee after submitting the panel’s report.

Amun announced his resignation after completing the committee’s assignment, saying he decided to vacate the position to avoid any form of “compromise” by remaining in the role after the report had been submitted, according to Brila Media.

The NFF established the six-member committee to investigate Nigeria’s recent setbacks in international football and make recommendations on how to improve the administration and performance of the country’s national teams.

The committee was inaugurated on August 17, with Amun appointed as chairman. Its mandate included investigating the causes of the recent poor performances of Nigeria’s national teams, with particular attention to the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Super Falcons missed out on the World Cup after being eliminated by Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco before suffering a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the subsequent playoff for a place in the Inter-Confederation Playoffs.

Nigeria will consequently miss the Women’s World Cup for the first time since the tournament began in 1991.

Amun was joined on the committee by former Nigeria U-20 coach Ladan Bosso, former Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie, former Super Eagles captain Mutiu Adepoju and former FIFA referee Dr Alex Mana. Nasiru Sa’idu served as secretary.

With the submission of its report, the committee has completed the assignment for which it was constituted.
