NCC Appoints Consultant Assess Competitive Landscape Of Nigeria’s Telecom Sector

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced its decision to appoint an independent consultant to carry out a comprehensive assessment of competition within the Nigerian telecommunications industry.

In a statement, the Commission said the study is being undertaken in line with Section 92 of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) and the Competition Practices Regulations (CPR) 2007.

According to the statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs at the NCC, Nnenna Ukoha, the exercise is designed to deliver an objective, evidence-based evaluation of competitive dynamics across the telecoms market.

Findings from the study are expected to guide appropriate regulatory actions aimed at strengthening fair competition, protecting consumer interests, stimulating investment, and advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda in line with long-term industry sustainability.

The Commission disclosed that the appointed consultant will consult widely with key stakeholders, including licensed operators, industry associations, and consumer advocacy groups. These stakeholders will be encouraged to submit data, insights, and policy perspectives to support a robust and inclusive analysis.
