Price of Peace Is Cheaper Than War, Fayose Tells Fubara Amid Rivers Power Struggle
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, on Tuesday cautioned Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, against escalating his political conflict with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Fayose gave the warning during an interview aired on ARISE News Television, where he stressed that Governor Fubara does not have the power to undermine or override the authority of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Admonishing the governor, Fayose said peace remains a far cheaper option than prolonged political confrontation, warning that failure to seek reconciliation could have serious consequences.
“It doesn’t have to be said in spiritual terms, but this is an advanced warning,” Fayose said. “There is a window and ample opportunity to close this chapter and resolve the problem. The price of peace is cheaper than the consequences of war. If you don’t do it, it will be left in the hands of God, because you can’t take away the powers of the House of Assembly.”
Drawing from his own experience as governor, Fayose recalled governing with an opposition-controlled legislature during his first term in Ekiti State.
“During my first tenure, I inherited a House of Assembly controlled by the APC because Ekiti conducts off-season elections. It was a tough experience. They could have removed me the second time. I had to use wisdom — carrot and stick — and manage everyone to survive,” he said.
He disclosed that the political conflict between Fubara and Wike is spiritual.
