Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Saturday night secured a 3-2 win over the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in a Group C match of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Victor Osimhen scored his first goal of the tournament, as did skipper Wilfred Ndidi, while Ademola Lookman netted his second as the Eagles booked their place in the next round.
The Eric Chelle-tutored side dominated proceedings from the outset but were unable to convert their superiority into goals until the 44th minute, when Osimhen broke the deadlock.
Nigeria doubled their advantage four minutes after the restart as Ndidi rose to head home Ademola Lookman’s corner kick.
Lookman then made it 3-0, finishing brilliantly after latching onto a pass from Osimhen to put the Eagles firmly in control.
Tunisia pulled one back in the 74th minute through Tabi and increased the pressure on Nigeria thereafter.
The North Africans were awarded a penalty in the 83rd minute, which they converted to set up a tense finale, but Nigeria held on for a second straight victory after their opening 2-1 win over Tanzania, with a final group match against Uganda to come.
