Nigerian Duo Shine As Trabzonspor Stun Galatasaray In Title Thriller

Super Eagles stars Paul Onuachu and Chibuike Nwaiwu were on target as Trabzonspor secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Galatasaray, throwing the Turkish Super Lig title race wide open.

The win lifts Trabzonspor to second place on the table with 63 points from 28 matches, just one point behind leaders Galatasaray, while Fenerbahçe sit third with 60 points.

Trabzonspor made a blistering start, with Onuachu opening the scoring in the fourth minute. The towering striker powered home a header from a well-delivered cross, marking his 22nd goal of the season and his first against the defending champions.

He thought he had doubled the lead just before halftime, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Galatasaray, missing injured Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, responded shortly after the restart to draw level.

However, Trabzonspor regained the advantage through another Nigerian, Chibuike Nwaiwu.

The defender rose to the occasion, finishing from a set-piece delivery by compatriot Anthony Nwakaeme to seal the victory.

It was Nwaiwu’s third goal of the season, coming just days after he made his debut for the Super Eagles.
