FRSC Confirms Multiple Fatal Crashes on Kara Bridge, Lagos–Ibadan Expressway

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, has confirmed a series of road traffic crashes that occurred on Kara Bridge along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway between October 29 and 30, 2025.

According to the FRSC, the incidents, which involved multiple vehicles at different times, resulted in several deaths, injuries, and major traffic disruptions along the busy corridor.

In a statement issued by the FRSC Lagos Sector Public Education Officer, Oluwadamilola Jayeola, the agency said its operatives responded promptly to all the incidents within minutes, ensuring swift rescue operations, removal of obstructions, and restoration of traffic flow.

The statement gave a detailed account of the crashes as follows:

First Crash – 8:00 p.m., October 29, 2025

• Vehicles Involved: Two DAF trucks (Reg. Nos. GGE 24 YJ and SBG 192 XB, both white)

• Persons Involved: Seven (all male)

• Injuries/Deaths: None reported

• Probable Cause: Speed violation and loss of control

• Action Taken: No casualties; obstruction promptly cleared by FRSC personnel with support from the Ojodu-Abiodun Police Division.

Second Crash (Fatal) – 9:40 p.m., October 29, 2025

• Vehicles Involved: Two unidentified DAF trucks

• Persons Involved: Six (all male)

• Injured: Two

• Killed: Four

• Probable Cause: Speed violation and loss of control

• Action Taken: Injured victims were taken to AZ Hospital, Magboro, and the Lagos State Accident & Emergency Centre, Ojota. The rescue operation involved FRSC, the Nigeria Police, and the Lagos State Fire Service.

• 

Third Crash (Fatal) – 10:15 p.m., October 29, 2025

• Vehicle Involved: A lone yellow truck (details yet to be confirmed)

• Persons Involved: Three (all male)

• Killed: One

• Probable Cause: Reckless overtaking and loss of control

• Action Taken: The deceased was evacuated to the mortuary by an ambulance from the Lagos State Ministry of Health.

Fourth Crash (Fatal) – 5:20 a.m., October 30, 2025

• Vehicles Involved: A tow truck (blue) and another truck (submerged in the Isheri River as of press time)

• Persons Involved: Five (all male or more)

• Injured: Two

• Killed: At least one, with recovery efforts ongoing

• Probable Cause: Reckless overtaking and loss of control

• Action Taken: Joint recovery operations are ongoing involving FRSC, the Nigeria Police, and Lagos State emergency agencies to retrieve the submerged vehicle and clear the area for normal traffic flow.

The FRSC said the multiple crashes within a short period on Kara Bridge underscore the dangers of speeding, loss of control, and poor night driving discipline along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, appealed to motorists—particularly truck drivers and fleet operators—to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, avoid overspeeding, driving distractions, and night journeys to prevent further loss of lives.
