Several Injured as Two BRT Buses Collide on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

Many passengers were feared injured on Thursday morning after two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses collided near Mangoro Bus Stop along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The accident, which occurred around 8 a.m., reportedly happened along the BRT lane when two buses travelling in opposite directions crashed into each other.

Eyewitnesses said passersby and emergency responders quickly rushed to the scene to assist in rescuing passengers, who were later taken to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.

Both drivers were said to have sustained serious injuries, with one reportedly trapped behind the steering wheel before being rescued.

According to witnesses, the collision occurred when one of the BRT buses heading toward Oshodi swerved to avoid an oncoming commercial bus that had entered the restricted lane.

They alleged that the commercial bus was being operated by members of the state task force, who were pursuing a defaulting driver along the corridor, leading to the crash.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency agencies later arrived at the scene to clear the wreckage and ease the heavy traffic that built up as a result of the accident.
