Team Nigeria has stepped up preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games by opening camp at Aberdeen Sports Village in Scotland as the countdown enters its final phase.
With 18 days left before the Games begin in Glasgow, the Nigerian contingent will spend the next three weeks at the high-performance facility before moving to the Games Village.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) said Aberdeen Sports Village provides an ideal base for athletes to fine-tune their preparations and acclimatise ahead of the multi-sport event.
NSC Director-General, Honourable Bukola Olopade, said the focus is on giving athletes access to world-class facilities in the final phase of preparation.
“Aberdeen Sports Village offers facilities that meet the highest international standards, and we are confident our athletes will make the most of this final preparation period,” Olopade said.
The venue, one of Scotland’s leading high-performance centres, has hosted major international competitions and regularly serves as a training base for elite athletes.
Meanwhile, Team Nigeria’s camp continues to grow, with 18 more athletes arriving in Scotland on Saturday, bringing the total in camp to 74. More athletes and officials are expected in the coming days as preparations intensify.
