President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday departed Abuja for a historic state visit to the United Kingdom aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between both countries.
The Presidential jet took off from the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 10:00 a.m.
According to the Presidency, President Tinubu is accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for the visit which will feature a series of high-level engagements.
As part of the visit, King Charles III will host the President and the First Lady at Windsor Castle from March 18 to March 19. The visit marks the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the United Kingdom in 37 years and the first time a Nigerian President will be hosted by a British monarch at Windsor Castle.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the visit is expected to deepen the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
He noted that discussions during the visit will focus on key areas including immigration, trade, investment, and cultural cooperation.
