Aiyedatiwa Announces FEC Approval for Revalidation of Ondo Deep Sea Port Licence

…Says Port Revalidation Will Draw Global Investors

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has announced that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved the revalidation of the state’s deep sea port licence, a development he described as a major milestone for industrialisation and investment growth in the state.

The governor disclosed this on Friday while addressing All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders during the final expanded quarterly meeting for 2025, held at the International Culture and Event Centre, The Dome, in Akure.

Aiyedatiwa explained that although the licence was initially secured during his tenure as deputy governor, progress was stalled due to a naming error in the original business case.

He revealed that the deep sea port would be sited in Erunona, Ilaje Local Government Area, which has the state’s longest coastline and offers strategic access to global trade routes.

According to him, the port corridor is expected to host key industrial projects, including fertiliser-producing chemical plants, the Sunshine Petroleum Zone, and a modular refinery with a planned capacity of 500,000 barrels, many of which are already at various stages of planning and development.

The governor emphasised that infrastructure development remains central to his administration’s economic strategy, noting that roads leading to industrial zones are being dualised, alongside ongoing modernisation projects.

Calling for unity within the party, he urged APC members to prioritise collective progress over individual ambitions, particularly as the party prepares for the 2027 presidential election.

Aiyedatiwa also linked Ondo’s progress to national economic reforms, noting that improved fiscal policies have enabled the state to invest more in infrastructure, security, and industrial projects while reducing its debt burden. He further announced that the administration will host an investment summit in February 2026 to mark its first anniversary and attract global investors to emerging opportunities in the state.

In his remarks, APC Southwest Vice Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, praised the governor’s humility and inclusive leadership. He encouraged lawmakers to participate actively in party activities and highlighted the expansion of representation from 10 to 60 delegates per local government.
