Lagos Equips Internal Auditors With Modern Data Analytics Skills

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving accountability and transparency by training internal auditors in data analytics to strengthen risk-based auditing, fraud detection, and public resource management.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Internal Audit, Dr. (Mrs.) Oyeyemi Ayoola, stated this while opening a four-day data analytics training programme for internal auditors in Ikeja.

She said the training supports the State’s digital transformation agenda by equipping auditors with modern tools to improve audit efficiency, generate accurate insights, and support better decision-making.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Internal Audit, Mrs. Monsurat Titilope Alaka, described the programme as a step towards strengthening the audit function, noting that data analytics allows auditors to assess full datasets rather than rely only on sampling.
She added that continuous professional development would promote financial discipline, transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The consultancy firm facilitating the programme, DYA Lorte Limited, said participants would receive practical training in data transformation, visualisation, and other analytical techniques to enhance evidence-based auditing.
Participants welcomed the initiative, describing it as an opportunity to gain modern skills that would improve governance, resource management, and public sector audit performance.
