Edo, NES To Partner On Waste Management, Climate Change, Environmental Sustainability

The Edo State Government has pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) to improve waste management, environmental protection and climate sustainability across the state.

The Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Nosa Adams, gave the assurance during a meeting with the society’s national executives, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Edith Ebomoyi.

NES National President, Efegbidiki Okobia, commended the state government for establishing a dedicated Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, describing the move as a demonstration of its commitment to addressing environmental challenges.

Okobia called for stronger environmental legislation and enforcement to curb indiscriminate waste disposal.

He also pledged the society’s support for public awareness campaigns and initiatives to improve environmental management.

He disclosed that the society’s three-day annual conference in Edo, themed “Reimagining Environmental Solutions,” would bring together experts, including international speakers from the University of Oxford and the Netherlands, to discuss emerging environmental challenges.

The society reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the state government and relevant organisations to strengthen environmental policies, promote sustainable practices and address climate change concerns.
