Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has expressed joy over the rescue of the pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Dave Agboola, Obasa commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government, the Nigerian Police, the Nigerian Army, and Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for their swift and coordinated efforts that secured the victims’ release.
The Speaker praised the commitment and resilience of the security agencies and government officials, saying the successful operation has restored hope to the affected families and the nation.
He congratulated the families of the rescued victims and extended his condolences to those who lost loved ones during the ordeal, assuring them of the solidarity and prayers of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Obasa also applauded the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) for standing firmly with their colleagues throughout the crisis.
He recalled that on June 2, 2026, members of the Lagos State Wing of the NUT marched to the Lagos State House of Assembly to demand urgent action while the victims remained in captivity, describing the move as a strong demonstration of unity within the education sector.
He said the successful rescue underscores the importance of collaboration among government institutions, security agencies, and communities in tackling insecurity and protecting citizens.
“This rescue is a reminder that when government institutions, security agencies, and communities work hand in hand, we can overcome even the gravest challenges. May this victory inspire renewed commitment to the safety of our schools and the protection of our children,” Obasa said.
