Akwa Ibom Governor Congratulates Ukeme Awakessien-Jeter on Reelection as Mayor in U.S.

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has congratulated Mayor Ukeme Awakessien-Jeter on her reelection as Mayor of Upper Arlington, Ohio, United States of America, pledging his unwavering support for her continued success.

Mayor Ukeme, an Akwa Ibom indigene, joins a growing list of Africans making remarkable strides in U.S. politics, including Uganda-born Zohran Mamdani, who is projected to become Mayor of New York City in 2026.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno described her reelection as a reflection of her exemplary leadership and the confidence reposed in her by the people of Upper Arlington.

“Your reelection is a reflection and testament to the outstanding leadership you demonstrated during your first term and the people’s trust in your ability to continue leading with purpose and vision,” the governor said. “It is heartwarming to note that all the candidates who ran on your slate also won convincingly.”

Governor Eno further expressed pride in Mayor Ukeme’s achievements, noting that her political success continues to inspire pride among Akwa Ibom citizens at home and abroad.

“As the Governor of the state of your ancestry, we are proud of your political ascendancy,” he said. “We will continue to celebrate and cheer you on as you pursue this great journey that God is leading you on.”
