..says party in denial
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has ridiculed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over what it described as a “wave of defections” rocking the opposition party, saying the PDP’s claim that it remains unshaken is a “laughable display of denial and self-deception.”
In a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesman, Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC said the recent spate of defections from the PDP was not just routine political movement but “an inevitable consequence of years of internal deceit, lack of ideology, and serial betrayal among its leaders.”
Oladejo said the PDP’s current woes were self-inflicted, adding that “when a house is built on quicksand, it doesn’t take much for it to collapse.
“The ongoing exodus from the PDP is a confirmation that even its loyalists have lost faith in a party that has consistently failed to reform itself or offer a credible alternative to Nigerians,” he stated.
The APC spokesman accused the PDP of thriving on “propaganda, blackmail, and empty rhetoric,” insisting that Nigerians were now wiser and would no longer be deceived by “a party that mismanaged the nation’s fortunes for sixteen wasteful years.”
He further dismissed the PDP’s show of unity as “a fragile alliance of opportunists” driven only by desperation for power.
Oladejo said the defections of key PDP figures to the APC reflected growing confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which, according to him, “is already yielding measurable progress across critical sectors.
“The few remaining members of the PDP are perhaps the undertakers—staying behind only to perform the final rites and dispose of what remains of a once-dominant but now lifeless political carcass,” he quipped.
The APC urged the PDP to stop issuing “hollow press statements” and instead conduct a post-mortem of its internal failures, acknowledging what it called its “drastically diminished relevance” in Nigeria’s political space.
Oladejo described the defections as more than political victories, saying they were “endorsements of the APC’s commitment to national renewal and people-centered governance”.
“The Nigerian people are speaking loudly, and the message is clear: the era of deceitful opposition politics is over,” he concluded.
