Arsenal secured a crucial victory despite further missed chances from Mikel Merino, Bukayo Saka and Piero Hincapie.
The Gunners also survived a scare when David Raya spilled Kevin De Bruyne’s long-range effort, but Ben White cleared the danger.
Arsenal’s goal followed a 29-pass move, their second-longest recorded sequence for a Champions League goal since 2003-04.
They registered 26 attempts, their highest total in a Champions League match since the start of last season.
