Lagos WAPA Empowers 250 Residents With Income-Generating Skills In Ibeju Lekki

 

The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) on Thursday held another round of its Life Skills Economic Empowerment Programme (LEEP).

The four-week short-term training at Ibeju-Lekki, would further cement the State Government’s commitment to grassroots empowerment and poverty reduction.

Commissioner of Women Affairs,  Mrs. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, who led the programme, emphasised that the LEEP initiative has already made remarkable impacts across Lagos, having been successfully taken to Agbowa-Ikosi, Alagbado, and Lagos Island in recent weeks.

She noted that the targeted interventions are designed to equip vulnerable residents with practical, income-generating skills that can improve their livelihoods and foster economic self-reliance.

Dada praised the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to women’s empowerment and community development, stressing that the State Government’s continued investment in skills training is a key driver of sustainable socio-economic growth.

She also recalled that the Ministry hosted the graduation ceremony of over 5,000 students from WAPA Skills Acquisition Centres across the State, reflecting the administration’s holistic approach to tackling unemployment and improving the standard of living for residents.

The Commissioner reaffirmed that the Ministry will continue to partner with communities, NGOs, and private stakeholders to deliver empowerment programmes that reach every corner of Lagos State, ensuring that no one is left behind in the government’s developmental agenda.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, WAPA, Mrs. Rianat Ajibike Onigbanjo, who thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support to the Ministry, encouraged beneficiaries to maximise the opportunities provided to them to enhance their trade proficiencies.
