The governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has reiterated government’s commitment to bolster communal institutions on legacies of impact and inclusion that would improve the economy and social activities across the state.
In his address, Aiyedatiwa who was represented by the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi, appreciated the Olubaka and entire Oka community for upholding the traditional and cultural values.
While emphasizing the importance of the festival the Governor mentioned that his administration recognises the critical role of Cultural institutions and communal bonds in fostering social stability and development.
“Oka Day is more than a cultural celebration; it is a reminder of where we are coming from, a reflection on where we are, and a rallying call for where we want to go together. We remain committed to working with all communities including the great people of Oka-Akoko to improve infrastructure, support education, create opportunities for youth, and ensure that every citizen of our state can thrive”.
“Oka Akoko stands tall in the history of Ondo State as a town known for resilience, intellectual prowess, unity, and industriousness. Many of your sons and daughters have distinguished themselves in various fields – government, business, arts and academia. This is a legacy we must protect and build upon. Already, we have ongoing interventions across Akoko South West and the broader Akoko axis in roads, rural electrification, healthcare, and school upgrades. I want to assure you that more will come; We are determined to leave behind a legacy of impact and inclusion”, he added.
The governor commended the Oka Development Union and all the organizers for their dedication towards the success of the Oka Day saying, the event reflects unity across all quarters of the community regardless of political or social affiliations.
He called on traditional institutions, youth organizations, and community leaders to continue to champion peace and development even as he charged them to embrace dialogue over conflict, collaboration over competition, and unity over division.
The Olubaka of Oka- Akoko, the Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Yussuf Adebori Adeleye OON, expressed gratitude to God Almighty saying “Today’s event marked the 38th edition of the annual Oka Day celebration that commenced precisely on August 6th, 1988; As the initiator of this noble event, I am happy to note to note that Oka-Day Celebration has come to stay as a formidable binding force in the community”
Oba Adeleye thanked the Ondo State government Security Agencies for providing the enabling environment for the remarkable Oka-Day 2025 Ceremony while he acknowledged the leadership role of the governor and also congratulated him for his landslide victory in the last gubernatorial election.
