The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has slammed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his recent criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Plateau State, describing the comment as “uninformed and mischievous”.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the party’s spokesman, Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC said Atiku’s claim that President Tinubu was “making merry” in Plateau while the country faces security challenges was a deliberate misrepresentation of facts.
According to Oladejo, the President’s visit was an act of compassion and solidarity, not celebration.
“President Tinubu’s visit to Plateau State was a show of compassion and solidarity — a mark of respect to a distinguished Nigerian family in grief and a reaffirmation of our shared humanity. Only a man blinded by bitterness and political envy would seek to twist such a solemn event for cheap propaganda,” Oladejo said.
He accused Atiku of hypocrisy and poor judgment, alleging that the insecurity currently confronting the nation has its roots in the failures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government under which the former vice president served.
“This is the same man who, during his years in public office, looked away as insecurity festered under his own party’s misrule. His PDP government laid the foundation for today’s security challenges by institutionalising corruption, destroying the economy, and undermining the capacity of our armed forces,” the statement added.
The Lagos APC maintained that the Tinubu administration has shown “proactive leadership” by strengthening security institutions and promoting intelligence-led operations that have led to “a steady return of peace in previously troubled zones.”
Oladejo further described Atiku as “a frustrated politician nursing the wounds of serial electoral defeats,” adding that his repeated criticisms of President Tinubu only expose his “descent into political irrelevance.”
“Atiku’s rapid and consistent descent into a political laughing stock is pitiable. He ought not to take his frustration to such a ridiculous level,” he stated.
The Lagos APC spokesman urged Atiku to “enjoy his forced retirement from politics” and reflect on his missed opportunities to serve the country meaningfully, rather than attacking a leader “working tirelessly to rebuild what his party destroyed.”
Oladejo reaffirmed that President Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare and security of Nigerians remains “total and unshakable,” stressing that “no amount of reckless politicking or bad-faith commentary from yesterday’s men can diminish that fact.”
