The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to announce a new Super Falcons coach this week as preparations begin for Nigeria’s 2028 Olympic qualifying campaign.
The appointment follows the decision to part ways with Justine Madugu and his technical crew after Nigeria failed to reach the 2026 WAFCON semi-finals and lost 2-1 to South Africa in the World Cup qualification play-off. The defeat ended Nigeria’s record of appearing at every FIFA Women’s World Cup since 1991.
The new coach will face an immediate challenge, with Nigeria set to play Comoros in the second qualifying round on October 9 and 13 at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo. The Falcons must win four two-legged rounds to secure one of Africa’s two Olympic places.
Nigeria returned to the Olympics at Paris 2024 after a 16-year absence and will seek successive appearances for the first time in years.
Former coach Thomas Dennerby has been linked with a return, while local coaches, including Florence Omagbemi, are also reportedly under consideration.
