The Edo State Healthcare Regulation and Monitoring Agency (EDOHERMA), led by its Chief Executive Officer, Dr Adesuwa Urhoghide-Edigin, has visited the Executive Secretary of the Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), Dr Coulson Oahimire Osoikhia, to strengthen collaboration between both agencies.
During the meeting in Benin City, Dr Urhoghide-Edigin stressed the need for a reliable database of health facilities across Edo State, noting that primary healthcare centres are residents’ first point of contact.
She said EDOHERMA was revalidating registered facilities, registering new ones and monitoring compliance, while shutting down quack centres. She proposed working with EDSPHCDA personnel across the 18 local government areas to support enumeration and regulation.
She also urged EDSPHCDA to engage only duly registered private health facilities and verify their status with EDOHERMA before involving them in programmes or partnerships.
Dr Urhoghide-Edigin said collaboration would help curb quackery and improve healthcare standards, adding that all health agencies must uphold government regulations and protect patients.
Osoikhia congratulated the EDOHERMA team, pledged to provide relevant data and affirmed that synergy between both agencies was essential.
The agencies agreed to coordinate their activities, address key health-sector concerns and avoid duplication while maintaining clear institutional responsibilities.
