The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has strongly condemned the racist abuse directed at Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo on social media, describing the attacks as unacceptable.
The online abuse followed an incident at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca, Morocco, where the Super Falcons camped for 10 days ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) before relocating to Rabat for their Group C matches.
In a statement, the NFF clarified that the individual responsible for stealing money at the team’s camp was promptly arrested by Moroccan authorities. The federation said the suspect returned the stolen cash in full before being sentenced to six months in prison.
The NFF expressed disappointment that, despite the swift resolution of the matter, Okoronkwo became the target of racist comments and offensive emojis on social media.
“The racist abuse and emojis directed at our player make absolutely no sense,” the federation said, stressing that “discrimination in any form has no place in football or society.”
The NFF reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the safety, dignity, and well-being of its players while urging supporters to reject all forms of racism and discrimination.
The federation also assured Nigerians that the Super Falcons remain united and focused despite the off-field distraction, with their attention firmly on Tuesday’s WAFCON opener against Malawi.
