The National Sports Commission (NSC) has dissolved the boards of the National Para Sports Federations with immediate effect as part of efforts to ensure a transparent, credible and seamless electoral process leading to the emergence of new leadership across the federations.
The affected federations are the Amputee Football Federation, Para Athletics Federation, Para Powerlifting Federation, Para Swimming Federation, Para Soccer Federation and Para Volleyball Federation.
According to the Commission, the decision is aimed at strengthening governance structures within the federations and ensuring that forthcoming elections are conducted in line with established principles of fairness, transparency and accountability.
The dissolved boards, which were inaugurated on July 20, 2022, were commended for their contributions to the growth and development of para sports in Nigeria through leadership, administrative oversight and stakeholder engagement.
The NSC expressed appreciation to the presidents, vice presidents, board members and other stakeholders of the federations for their dedication, commitment and service during their tenure.
As part of the transition process, all outgoing board members have been directed to immediately hand over federation properties, records, documents and official responsibilities to their respective Secretaries-General, who will oversee the administration of the federations pending the conduct of elections and inauguration of new boards.
The Commission assured athletes, coaches, technical officials, sponsors, partners and the wider sporting community that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure continuity in the operations and activities of the federations during the transition period.
It added that details of the modalities, timelines and procedures for the forthcoming elections would be communicated through its official channels in due course, reaffirming its commitment to good governance, institutional excellence and the sustainable development of sports in Nigeria.
