The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has appointed renowned NBA coach David Fizdale as the new head coach of Nigeria’s men’s senior national basketball team, D’Tigers.
The appointment, approved under the leadership of NBBF President Ahmadu Musa Kida, followed recommendations from the federation’s Technical Committee and forms part of efforts to strengthen the technical capacity of Nigerian basketball.
Kida described the decision as strategic, saying it aligns with the federation’s long-term vision of building a world-class basketball structure and highly competitive national teams.
“David Fizdale represents the level of leadership, professionalism and basketball knowledge that aligns with our vision for the future of Nigerian basketball,” Kida said.
According to him, Fizdale’s experience, international exposure and understanding of the modern game will help position D’Tigers to compete effectively at the highest level while also supporting the development of basketball in Nigeria.
“Beyond the national team, we believe his presence will contribute significantly to player development, coaching education and the continued growth of basketball in Nigeria. This is about building a sustainable future and creating an environment where Nigerian basketball can thrive globally for years to come,” he added.
Fizdale is widely respected for his extensive NBA coaching experience and track record in player development, team culture building and discipline.
The appointment marks a significant step in the NBBF’s efforts to elevate Nigerian basketball on the global stage while reinforcing its commitment to technical excellence and long-term growth.
