Former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The two prominent politicians were received into the party on Sunday at the NDC national secretariat in Abuja, where they were presented with membership cards by the party’s national chairman, Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe.
Their entry into the NDC follows Obi’s recent announcement of his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Kwankwaso had earlier indicated that he was holding broad consultations with the party leadership.
Speaking after their formal induction, Kwankwaso said their engagement with NDC stakeholders revealed a shared ideological direction, noting that both sides had agreed on key national issues.
He urged Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing registration exercise to join the party, describing the NDC as a platform for national renewal.
Obi, on his part, called on party members to avoid internal disputes and litigation, stressing that the focus should be on rebuilding the country rather than engaging in prolonged legal battles.
According to him, the party is committed to forming a government that will restore hope and improve living conditions for Nigerians across the country.
“We are not here for litigation. We are here to build a country where Nigerians can live without fear and with dignity,” Obi said.
