Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital as a precaution after falling unwell at Old Trafford shortly before Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday.
The 84-year-old former United manager, who led the club for 27 years, was attended to at the stadium before being transported by ambulance.
Sources indicated the move was precautionary rather than an emergency, with club officials optimistic he will make a swift recovery.
Ferguson, a regular presence in the directors’ box, had earlier been seen at the stadium interacting with guests ahead of kickoff. No further update on his condition has been released.

Kobbie Mainoo emerged as the hero, scoring a late winner in the 77th minute to cap a thrilling encounter after Liverpool had erased a two-goal deficit early in the second half.
