Former Super Eagles forward Daniel Amokachi could be set for a return to the national team setup, as he is being tipped for the Nigeria U-23 coaching job.
Sources indicate that Amokachi, popularly known as “The Bull,” stands a strong chance of being appointed to lead the Olympic team, a role he previously handled. However, his chances may depend on addressing concerns about his relationship with players and officials.
Amokachi is among several coaches who have applied for the position, including former U-23 handler Samson Siasia.
A top source revealed that Amokachi is expected to mend ties with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) leadership after he turned down an offer to serve as assistant coach to Finidi George in June 2024.
He reportedly rejected the role due to its “pay-as-you-work” structure, which a former teammate described as “demeaning.”
There are also indications that the former international may need to adopt a more measured approach in his dealings with players, amid concerns over his perceived high-handedness.
Amokachi’s last coaching stint ended early last year when he stepped down as head coach of Lobi Stars following a string of poor results.
