Barcelona Go 11 Points Clear As Rashford Seals Getafe Win

Marcus Rashford was on target as Barcelona strengthened their push for a second consecutive La Liga title with a hard-fought victory over Getafe.

The on-loan Manchester United forward sealed the win in the second half, finishing off a swift counterattack as Hansi Flick’s side capitalised on Real Madrid’s surprising 1-1 draw with Real Betis on Friday night.

The result leaves Barcelona 11 points clear at the top of the table, with both sides having five games remaining, as they edge closer to a 29th league crown.

Fermín López had given Barcelona the lead just before halftime, slotting home in the 45th minute after being expertly set up by Pedri.

Barcelona were without teenage star Lamine Yamal, whose season was cut short by a hamstring injury sustained in Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Celta Vigo.

Rashford, meanwhile, started on the bench and was introduced on the hour mark in place of Roony Bardghji.

Getafe, still chasing European qualification, pushed forward in search of an equaliser in the second half but left gaps at the back.

Rashford took full advantage, netting his seventh La Liga goal after latching onto a long ball from Robert Lewandowski with the hosts caught high up the pitch.

The England international carried the ball from his own half and, with only goalkeeper David Soria to beat, showed great composure to finish and secure all three points for Barcelona.
