Lagos Govt Expands Employee Wellness Drive, Offers Free Medications, Routine Checks
The Lagos State Government has officially flagged off the 2026 Annual Medical Screening Programme for public servants, themed “Public Servants, Know Your Numbers,” urging workers to prioritise their health through routine medical checks.
The flag-off ceremony, held at the Folarin Coker Staff Clinic, was led by the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, who emphasised the strong connection between a healthy workforce and effective public service delivery, noting that improved staff wellbeing enhances productivity and efficiency.
After declaring the programme open, Agoro toured the facility, including the Lagos State Employee Wellness Centre, where he stressed the importance of mental health and wellness among civil servants.
He commended Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for prioritising staff welfare, describing him as a “Talk and Do” leader committed to ensuring that public servants remain healthy, motivated, and productive.
Agoro encouraged workers to participate actively in the screening programme, noting that many health conditions are silent and only detectable through regular checks.
He further revealed that government has provided funding for the programme, including free medications, while partnerships with the private sector are being explored to improve drug availability.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dayo Lajide, described the programme as a strategic initiative to promote health ownership, noting that many non-communicable diseases develop silently and are often detected late, while assuring access to free screening and professional care.
Also speaking, the Director of Staff Health Services, Abdulrasheed Kolade, said the programme targets 3,500 to 4,000 civil servants annually, with routine and specialised screenings, while a nursing officer, Olushola Callisto, labour leader Olusegun Balogun, and beneficiary Funmi Daramola lauded the initiative for improving health awareness, early detection, and overall staff welfare.
