The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has welcomed the European Union’s decision to remove Nigeria from its list of high-risk third-country jurisdictions for money laundering and terrorism financing, describing the move as a major endorsement of the country’s ongoing reforms.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Lagos APC Spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, the party said Nigeria’s delisting, alongside South Africa, Burkina Faso, Mali, Mozambique and Tanzania, signalled growing international confidence in the country’s financial governance and regulatory framework.
According to Oladejo, the development reflects sustained improvements in Nigeria’s financial oversight systems, enhanced inter-agency collaboration and a renewed commitment to transparency and compliance with global standards.
He noted that the delisting was the outcome of reforms implemented by the Federal Government to strengthen safeguards, improve enforcement mechanisms and align Nigeria with international best practices in financial governance.
The Lagos APC said the decision has far-reaching implications for the country, including restoring investor confidence, easing cross-border transactions, reducing compliance burdens for businesses and improving access to global financial systems.
Oladejo added that the development counters narratives by opposition elements who, according to him, have consistently portrayed Nigeria negatively on the global stage, insisting that independent international assessments now point to measurable progress.
The party commended the Federal Government for what it described as focus and resolve in pursuing reforms, urging Nigerians to take pride in the achievement.
The Lagos APC also called on stakeholders to support ongoing reforms and embrace what it described as positive momentum, noting that the EU’s decision underscores Nigeria’s improving credibility and standing in the international community.
