Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has commended road contractors delivering quality work across Edo South Senatorial District, while warning underperforming firms to improve or risk having their contracts revoked.
The governor gave the warning during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects in the district, aimed at ensuring timely delivery and value for public funds.
Okpebholo said the exercise was necessary to distinguish between contractors who are meeting specifications and those falling short of agreed standards and timelines.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the pace and quality of work on Church Road and Upper Ekenwan Road, warning that the contract could be revoked if improvements are not made before the next inspection.
The governor, however, praised contractors at other locations, including Ogheghe and Sapele Road, noting that their projects were progressing satisfactorily and met required standards.
Okpebholo stressed that his administration would not tolerate delays, especially with the rainy season approaching, adding that projects would be monitored closely, including on weekends.
He linked the road projects to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, describing road construction as a key way to restore public confidence and demonstrate effective governance.
The projects inspected include Charismatic (Church) Road off Ekhenwan Road, Old Sapele Road linking Agip, Ohogbohi and Ogheghe communities, Ogheghe Road off Sapele Road, and the Sapele Road Bypass, with residents praising the governor for visible development.
