Edo Courts Foreign Investors, Showcases High-Grade Coal, Limestone Deposits

The Edo State Government has hosted a delegation of investors from Jiangsu Veduta Global Limited on a tour of its coal deposits and other mineral resource sites, as part of efforts to position the state as Nigeria’s next solid minerals hub and harness its natural endowments for economic and community development.

The visit, led by the Commissioner for Mining, Hon. Andrew Ijegbai, took the team to Ovbiowun Community in Owan East Local Government Area, where the investors were shown high-grade coal deposits. Ijegbai reiterated the state’s readiness to partner with investors who align with its development vision, noting that Edo is blessed with abundant, top-quality mineral resources waiting to be fully explored.

In continuation of the tour, the delegation visited Igue-Oke Community, renowned for its rich limestone formations and other untapped mineral assets. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Mining, Mrs. Ese Martina Omoruyi, briefed the investors on the ongoing technical and exploratory work being carried out by the ministry to expand the state’s mineral database.

“Our geologists are currently in the field conducting detailed exploration across the state. Every week, new findings emerge. We are discovering hidden treasures that will further reposition Edo State as a powerhouse in Nigeria’s solid mineral sector,” Omoruyi said.

The investors’ spokesperson, Mr. Kingsley Ogbor, expressed satisfaction with the tour, describing the mineral samples and sites visited as impressive, commercially viable, and globally competitive. He affirmed the team’s willingness to collaborate with the government to unlock Edo’s mining potential.

The engagement underscores the ministry’s continuous drive to advance the Sen. Okpebholo-led administration’s broader economic agenda, which prioritises investment promotion, job creation, community development, and sustainable mining practices.
