Lagos Governor Seeks Date for ₦4.2trn Budget Presentation, As Lawmakers Reject Parking Authority GM Nomination
The governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu would be presenting a 2026 budget estimate size of N4.237 trillion before the House of Assembly soon.
Sanwo-Olu gave the hint in an official communication to the House, asking the lawmakers to fix a suitable date for the presentation.
The letter, read on the floor of the House by the Clerk, Barr. Olalekan Onafeko, formally sets in motion the legislative processes leading to the budget presentation.
Meanwhile, during plenary the House nullified the nomination of Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu as General Manager of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPAA).
Presenting the report of the 12-man Ad Hoc Committee on Screening of Nominees, Chairman Hon. Mojeed Fatai explained that Mrs. Adelabu had been functioning in the capacity of General Manager since 2021 without ever appearing before the House for the constitutionally required confirmation. He noted that this breach of legislative procedure formed the basis of the committee’s recommendation.
Following deliberations, and pursuant to Section 92 of the Lagos State Transport Reform Law, the House adopted the committee’s recommendation and formally nullified her nomination.
However, the Assembly confirmed two other nominees for strategic positions in the state government. The lawmakers approved the appointment of Mrs. Adeyemo Khadijat as Executive Secretary, Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission, and Mrs. Adepoju Adebajo as Chairman, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF).
The Speaker, Rt. (Hon) Mudashiru Obasa, commended the Ad Hoc Committee for its diligence and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to due process, accountability, and ensuring that only qualified and properly screened individuals occupy positions of public trust for the benefit of Lagos residents.
