Zero Tolerance: LASG Reiterates Stand Against Exam Malpractice, Prepares For Digital Transition
The Lagos state government, through The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has reiterated its zero tolerance for examination malpractice, insisting that all contravention and sanctions would be communicated to schools.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun made the reaffirmation in a meeting with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) State Committee at the Secretariat, Alausa-Ikeja, where the digital transition, computer-based examination of 2026 WAEC was announced as preparations ensued for the forthcoming WAEC.
Speaking at the meeting, WAEC Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Rafiu Atoyebi, remarked the performance analysis of each state, explaining the proposed Computer-Based Testing (CBT) format which would be hybrid and the experimental programme for selected WAEC subjects be held at JAMB-accredited centres.
He further enlightened the management on the Council’s digital transition and firmness on a Computer-Based examination transition for the May/June 2026 examination, noting “No doubt, this transition comes amid fears of stakeholders about the nation’s preparedness for conducting Computer-Based Examination, especially due to technical glitches that was experienced at the initial release of the year 2025 WASSCE for school candidates”.
The Zonal Coordinator, however, addressed concerns about internet connectivity, including candidates in the rural areas, assuring that all candidates who register for the year 2026 WASSCE will write the examination, irrespective of their locations.
According to him, the full transition will eliminate logistics challenges, enhance examination credibility, and ultimately reduce examination malpractice.
The Computer Based-WASSCE is part of WAEC’s broader strategy to modernise assessment systems and integrate technology into every stage of examination management from registration and testing to result processing and verification.
