NHRC, PCC Ogun Partner To Address Administrative Injustice, Fundamental Human Rights Violation
In a significant move to strengthen the fight for social and administrative justice and curb human rights abuses, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) in Ogun State have agreed to a formal collaborative partnership.
The agreement was reached on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the State Coordinator of the NHRC, Mrs. Olayinka Odibie to the office of the Federal Commissioner of the PCC in Abeokuta.
A statement by the PCC Ogun, said the main purpose of the visit was to identify ways for both bodies to partner more effectively in addressing citizens’ grievances, particularly against administrative injustice and the violation of fundamental human rights.
Odibe clarified the distinct yet complementary mandates of the two agencies.
She stated that while the PCC primarily tackles administrative injustice and excesses by government officials, the NHRC focuses on matters of fundamental human rights.
The State Coordinator emphasized that the NHRC is now prepared to refer cases of administrative nature to the PCC, ensuring citizens are directed to the appropriate agency for swift redress.
“Though there are areas where both Commission’s cross paths in responsibilities, the National Human Rights Commission will be willing and ready to forward to the PCC matters that are administrative in nature while the NHRC handles matters of fundamental human rights,” Odibe stated.
